  • A silk press is a straightening service specifically designed for natural hair. It involves the use of heat through blow-drying and flat-ironing to temporarily smooth and straighten the hair. This technique is chemical-free, making it a great choice for those with kinky, coily, or curly hair types who want to experience a sleek look without the use of harsh chemicals.

The process begins with a thorough shampoo and conditioning treatment to cleanse and hydrate the hair. The hair is then blow-dried and sectioned off in preparation for the flat iron. Then I use a high-quality flat iron to press the hair, creating a straight, shiny, silky, and soft finish. This gives the hair a lot of body and the appearance of being relaxed, even though no chemicals were used.

  • Two Strand Twists: This is a popular style among those with natural hair. It involves dividing the hair into sections, then taking each section and splitting it into two strands. These strands are then twisted around each other from the root to the ends of the hair. Two strand twists can be worn as a hairstyle itself, or it can be undone after drying to create a twist out, which gives the hair added volume and texture.

Flat Twists: This style is similar to two strand twists, but instead of just twisting the strands around each other, they're twisted flat against the scalp, similar to cornrows. This creates a neat, protective style that can last a few days or even up to a week, depending on how well it's maintained. Flat twists can be done on any length of hair, and they can also be unravelled to create a curly, voluminous style.

Coils: Also known as finger coils, this is a method of styling where small sections of damp hair are twirled around the finger to create tight, spiral curls. This style works best on short to medium length natural hair. Coils can give the appearance of a full head of ringlets and can be a great low-maintenance style for those with highly textured hair.

Roller Sets: In this classic styling technique, damp hair is wrapped around rollers of various sizes and left to dry, either naturally or under a hooded dryer. Once the rollers are removed, the result is a head full of bouncy, defined curls. Roller sets can be used on all hair types and lengths, and they're a great heat-free option for achieving a curly style.

Wash and Go's: This is a method of styling natural hair where the hair is washed, a curl-defining product is applied, and then the hair is left to dry naturally or with a diffuser. The goal is to define the natural curl pattern of the hair and create a style that can last several days with minimal manipulation. This method works best on curly to coily hair types.

  • Blow Outs: A blow out is a hair styling technique that involves the use of a hairdryer, usually with a round brush, to achieve a smooth and sleek look with volume at the roots. This process begins with washing and conditioning the hair, then applying a heat protectant before drying. The result is a polished, salon-quality finish with body and shine. Blow outs can be tailored to individual preferences, whether you like your hair straight, wavy, or with a bit of curl.

Wig Braid Down: This is a preparation method for wearing a wig, especially a sew-in or lace front wig. The natural hair is first shampooed, conditioned, and blow-dried. Then, the hair is braided down in cornrows or flat twists against the scalp. These braids serve as the foundation to which the wig will be attached. The direction and pattern of the braids can vary based on the desired final look of the wig. This technique helps to protect the natural hair underneath and ensures a flat, seamless finish for the wig3.

  • Tape-In Extensions: This is a type of hair extension that is applied using adhesive tape. Each weft of hair has a thin, clear strip of adhesive tape attached to it. I section off your natural hair and then sandwich a small section between two tape-in extensions, essentially sticking them together with your natural hair in the middle. These extensions are relatively durable, and they can add length and volume without the use of heat or tools. However, these extensions need to be moved up every 4-6 weeks as your natural hair grows out.

Micro-links: Also known as micro-beads or micro loops, are a method of hair extension application that doesn't involve glue, heat, or braiding. Instead, small sections of your natural hair are threaded through tiny metal rings (the microlinks), along with a strand of the extension hair. Then, the ring is clamped down to secure the extension in place. This method is known for creating a very natural look since the extensions move freely with your natural hair. However, microlinks require regular maintenance appointments to move up the beads as your hair grows.

  • A keratin treatment is a semi-permanent hair smoothing process that aims to transform frizzy, unruly hair into straight, sleek, and shiny tresses. This chemical process works by infusing keratin, a protein naturally found in hair, into the hair cuticle, resulting in smoother and more manageable strands. It can significantly reduce blow-drying time, control frizz, enhance shine, and even make hair more resistant to environmental factors like humidity.

  • Invest in a high-quality color-protecting shampoo and conditioner. These products are specially formulated to help maintain hair color and prevent fading.

  • Hot water can strip away color and natural oils from the hair.

  • Reduce the frequency of hair washing. Washing hair every 4-7 days, rather than daily, can help maintain color and prevent fading.

  • Exercise caution against using shampoos with sulfates, as they can be harsh on colored hair and cause fading. Sulfate-free shampoos are a better choice.

  • Use hair products with UV protection, such as leave-in sprays or serums. UV rays can accelerate color fading, so protection is essential.

  • Heat styling tools like flat irons and curling irons can cause color to fade faster. Use these tools sparingly and at lower temperatures.

  • Use dry shampoo between washes to refresh hair and absorb excess oil without stripping away color.

  • Incorporate a deep conditioning treatment into your routine once a week or as needed. This helps keep hair hydrated and prevents it from becoming dry and brittle.

  • Wear a swim cap when swimming in chlorinated pools or saltwater, as both can affect hair color.

  • If you experiences issues with your hair color, not to attempt DIY color corrections but consult with me prior to using any professional products. DIY hair color is extremely unpredictable and can cause extreme chemical reactions.

What should I do to prepare my hair for coloring?

Coloring services are a three step process at Love, Kayli Nicole. At your first appointment, you will come in for a color consultation where we will discuss hair history, hair goals, and we will conduct a strand and patch test.

Once we have agreed on when you can come back for your color service, we will schedule you a “hair prep” appointment 48-72 hours before your color appointment. At the hair prep appointment, you will receive a shampoo, treatment, blowout and haircut. This helps me properly prepare your hair and scalp for your color service and allows me to remove any hair that needs to go prior to the service to eliminate wasted product, time and money.

48-72 hours later, we will conduct your color service.
